Multimodal Reflection Blog

The topic I did my project on was adult care facilities. The idea for the topic came after my research on what I wanted to do. I wanted my topic to be healthcare related, since that was what I started with. My main audience was mostly elderly people and anyone in charge of the well being of an elderly person. The reason for my choice of audience is simply because adult care facilities are mostly occupied by senior citizens. Also the information I provided would be helpful to them when looking for an adult care facility. The main purpose for my choice of topic was to help both the patient and their families, when considering relocating to an adult care facility.

My multimodal webtext would be well suited to a web reader because I always try to make my presentation as simple as possible; this one was not left out. The information about adult care facilities is enormous. I tried to simplify the information as much as possible, to allow readers to understand what I talked about. For the multimodal slide show, I created a tour of a typical adult facility. I think it will help readers visualize what to expect at an adult care facility.

I did not find helpful resources online, so I visited a facility to talk with the personnel. Most of the information I found online was on the cost. The rest of the information was from my interview with the personnel of the facility. The hardest part was organizing the pictures to flow with the podcast. It took several tries and time to get it done right, but I think it was worth the trouble. Overall I think I liked the idea of multiple peer review, it actually gave me more insights to the topic. It also helped in making it a better project.

MM project progress

My multimodal podcast is taking longer to complete than I planned. I have managed to complete my webtext, but the podcast slideshow is taking much of my time. I am working on a typical adult facility as the podcast slideshow project. I took the pictures myself, and I think it came out good.

Multimodadal Webtext Proposal

I will be doing my multimodal webtext on healthacre facilities (Adult Homes). I will be focusing on the procedure, activities and cost of admission into an adult home. I think it will assist many elderly and people who are responsible for the care of an elderly.

Podcast Reflection

The topic of my podcast was health care systems; my topic was very critical in selection. I was not sure how to link my webtext to the podcast, but I finally came up with a way on how to link the two, since they were both health care related. The audience I chose for my podcast was patients because I think this issue affects all of them one way or the other. The purpose was to bring this issue into the mind of patients to be able to take action; it was like a wake up call to action, by petitioning their state senators to work on a bill that addresses this issue.

I think the organization and presentation of the podcast was given in a very simple format, just the main points and a couple of examples to make the listener think of how this issue affects them. To my best knowledge I think this podcast was presented in a very simplified manner, and would be good for a web reader. I actually wrote a lot of materials, but while I was recording most of them sounded redundant, so I had to take some things out.

It actually took longer than expected to finish the recording despite the fact that the audacity software was easy to work with. I had stop and rerecord several times. I also think my selection of music would make the podcast a very good one. There were not too many materials on the Internet, but I came up with materials from my own personal experience. Overall I think there was not enough time to do a better job, but it was good at the end. I hope listeners would take action now to take care of the health care crises in America

Podcast Script

My podcast script focused on the discriminating way that care is provided to patients. I also talked about healthcare insurance, and the way it has become unaffordable to ordinary working class Americans. I hope people can petition their state senators to work on a bill to address the issue.

New Podcast

I have finally decided to do my podcast on the healthcare system. I will be looking at the way the healthcare system is presently and where patients would want it to be in the future. I believe the healthcare system could serve people better.

Reflection Blog

My topic on abortion laws was carefully selected and my research was really thorough. Just looking at the period we are in, a presidential election year; a lot of people are constantly searching the internet for information regarding series of issues that affect them. I noticed that abortion is one major issue that drives voters to the boot to cast their vote for a particular candidate that was why I decided to write my podcast on this issue.

This is an issue that has been coming up from one presidential year to another, so I knew I will definitely get a very large audience. Also because of the importance of this topic I was willing to assist people who were struggling with this topic in deciding who to vote for and also help people contemplating abortion; to actually know what laws are in place and govern this issue. The organization of this web text; to my best ability, I think would be very suitable to a web reader, because I used very simple terms and also introduced the topic in a way that someone who has a little idea about it can follow through and make sense from what I have written. By talking about the laws and giving them a background on the issue I think would give a lot of readers that understanding about where the candidates stand on the issue.

Basically I used internet sources for all my research, you might notice that most of them are from like newspapers and the television articles. I tried not to seem bias in anyway possible that was why in the section “my view” I did not cite any references, they were totally my ideas. Let me also mention that the Dreamweaver application might have not presented the webtext to my best representation of how I would have wanted it to be. I think some more practice with the Dreamweaver application might help next time Also I could not find any image that suites abortion so I decided to use the presidential nominees, since it was in a way about the election too.

Podcast proposal

I think I will do my podcast on abortion statistcs. McCain is in favor of overturning Roe v Wade, while Obama is not. Obama argues that abortion rate has gone up in the past year because there has not been an oversight, like sex education in schools and available contraceptives to women. While McCain argues that it is because abortion has been legalized, and that is why the rate is so high. So I will be looking at the statistics to see which idea would result in lower rate of abortions.

My podcast

I have not actually decided what my podcast is going to be on, but i know it is going to be on politics. I might just find some other issue that is really critical in this presidential election and talk about it.

Abortion Laws [Present and future]

I will like write my web text on abortion laws present and future, looking at the laws in place now and what to expect under the next administration. Abortion is a very important issue that plagues a lot of Americans. This topic will also enlighten people about choices they have when it comes to abortion.
This topic will benefit a lot of women and basically anyone else. I will be approaching this topic by researching the internet. I will be looking at the United States website on policies and reform, and Senator Obama’s website and Senator McCain’s website on their policies and view on abortion. Also what changes they will make to the existing laws on abortion. I might also be looking at some articles from the library.
At the end of this web text I am hoping to enlighten people about the topic, also anyone who is looking at this topic to elect the next president, and also people should be able to draw a big distinction between the two presidential nominees on this issue.
